Angus Gardner is an artist currently living and working in Paris. His practice engages with the landscape and experience of place.

Initial connections are always established through drawing outside of the studio. These drawings carry an immediacy and freedom that dictates the development of the work that follows. Movement between materials and making techniques is central to Gardner's practice, with a constant push and pull between surface and form. Works develop through a process of iteration, repetition and transition.

Recently, Gardner has been working from his Paris based studio. It has seen a return to ceramics as the primary material through which he communicates, rather than a translation of ideas first worked out on canvas. Recurring motifs from the landscape become a way to experiment with form and surface, and a record of slow, considered looking. Time, pace and rhythm play an important role in new sculptures. Not only due to the nature of the material, one that requires patience through its many stages, but also in the way the sculptures portray moments of change in the natural world.

Gardner graduated from the College of Fine Arts (UNSW) in 2014. He has exhibited throughout Australia and internationally. Gardner was included in ‘Clay Dynasty’ at The Powerhouse Museum, a survey of Australian ceramics, and is represented in the museums permanent collection as well as private collections both in Australia and overseas.
