ANGUS GARDNER

A1.

I have always enjoyed making cups with handles of unusual shapes and sizes. I am interested in the performative element of someone navigating the handle on a handmade cup. This project stemmed from a year of investigation into handles and hands. My intention was to produce a series of objects that explored these ideas and celebrated the morning coffee and a small cup of tea.

This series of slip cast cups was designed, prototyped and produced in my Melbourne studio. The forms are made from a stoneware clay body and fired to 1280 degrees celsius. The three glaze options, electric blue, iron brown and white, where developed specifically for this project.

The objects will be produced and released in numbered collections. Once all styles are sold a new collection will be made and subsequently available through the store. This allows you to mix, match and add over a period of time whilst also making each cup individual and considered.
